An exciting opportunity in April is approaching quickly. The Faculty Inquiry Network and San Diego Mesa College are co-hosting a one-day conference, “Intersecting Literacies” that will be of great interest to anyone who teaches writing or makes writing an important part of their students’ intellectual experience. We would like to welcome not only Faculty, but Students as well! We will listen to student voice as well as have participating Students in the workshop itself. This conference will feature student video work as well as “The Written Works: From Diary to Dissertation to Democracy” in a workshop setting. Below is “The Written Works.”
The Written Works is a two-tiered documentary/tale of one student’s journey into the world of writing. Trying to find its value, she uncovers different ways writing can be used in the larger world, while questioning the ways it has been used in the academy. Discovering much about herself and these academic institutions, she steps into this world and gets more than she bargained for. Will the whole endeavor overtake her or will her new-found self become the writer she was meant to be all along?
The Creation of The Written Works was generously supported by: SPECC (Strengthening Pre-collegiate Education in Community Colleges), a joint project of the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, and the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation.
